ORGANIZATION PROFILE:
UpBeat Music & Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that was founded in 2013 to help youth reach their fullest potential through music and the arts.  UpBeat believes economics should not be a barrier to music education, and the organization and its donors provide many scholarships to underserved youth every year.  Their teachers are a passionate group who make a difference in the lives of each and every student - they are not only outstanding musicians, but relate to young people and their unique needs.  Individual and peer-based small group learning environments help to facilitate social and emotional  growth, while students learn the fundamentals of music performance and theory, gaining confidence and self-esteem along the way.  UpBeat currently employs 17 instructors and is excited to welcome more teachers to their team!

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The new teacher will focus on voice instruction.  If the instructor is interested in giving piano or other instrument lessons, a small student base can also be provided in those areas.

The instructor will work with children ages 8 to young adult.  Nearly all lessons are in-person at the UpBeat studio, with virtual lessons only offered in special circumstances.

Overall duties include:

- accompany students on piano
- teach 30-minute individual voice lessons

- teach theory, technique, performance, and composition
- utilize exercises and games to motivate students
- conduct ongoing assessments of achievements through formal and informal testing
- help to coordinate and support program activities
- contribute towards organizing activities, curriculum design, and student / parent feedback

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented vocalist to make a difference in the lives of youth through music.

While teaching experience is preferred, it is not required and full training will be provided.

REQUIREMENTS:
- proficiency in voice performance
- ability to accompany students on piano
- strong understanding of music theory
- a passion for working with youth
- previous experience in music education, summer camps, or similar settings preferred
